Placing Porcelain Veneers
The process of placing porcelain veneers takes two visits over the course of about two weeks. It begins with your first visit, in which Dr. John T. Hess will make the necessary alterations to the tooth so it may accommodate the veneer. This involves the removal of some of the enamel from the front surface of the tooth, a portion equal to the thickness of about three sheets of paper. Next, the dentist will take a mold of the altered tooth, which will be used to create a veneer that will fit precisely on the tooth and among the adjacent teeth.
About two weeks later, when your custom veneer is complete, you will return to our office to have it placed. Dr. Hess will make shallow etchings in the tooth's surface, which will help the adhesive bond the veneer to the tooth. He will position the veneer before cementing it in place to ensure a proper fit. Once he is ready to secure it in place, he will apply the adhesive and place the veneer. The dentist will shine a special dental lamp on the veneer to help solidify the bonding solution.
